Math 8

Chapter 6 is done.

We are moving on to chapter 7 (Algebra Expressions and Equations).  It is absolutely critical that students do not fall behind for the next 6-8 weeks since this unit, along with chapter 8 is what will prepare them for a major component of grade 9 math.

Assigned today (and thus, becomes weekend homework): pg 292-295, #1-10.

On Tuesday, we’ll discuss these issues again as a group before moving forward, but it is important that students put time into completing assigned tasks to the best of their ability on their own and seek help from me after they have done everything they can do.

Math 9

Today marks the end of term 2…Term test was today in class. Unfortunately due to report card deadlines, make-up opportunities are not available for this test.

  • Term test marks can be seen in Power School, but term marks may change at the last minute based on my consideration of students’ overall performance throughout the term (remember, although it may not always seem like it, I AM on your side).
  • Report cards will be given to students late next week.
  • All items assessed after today contribute to 3rd term marks.
  • Remember: Each term is worth 30% of final mark, Final exam in June is worth 10% of final mark.

Math 9

Based on the results of the major assignment from yesterday, one single, double sided notes page will be allowed for Thursday’s term test. This may have formula, diagrams and notes of any kind that you may need. Calculators will also be permitted (but as usual, no multi-function devices like phones or iPods).

Assignments were returned and reviewed today. Marks were uploaded to Power School yesterday and can be viewed.

Changes may be made to final marks up to the end of this week, so what you see on Power School now may be significantly different from what goes on the report card (term test may help a great deal!)

Math 9

As mentioned last week, tomorrow you will be given a rather large cumulative assessment to give you a real sense of the material seen on the term test later this week. It will be marked just as any other formal assessment, but the better you do on this (and the test later this week), the more easily I may be able to justify a disproportionate boost in your final term grade – and believe it or not, that’s what I’d like for all of you!

I will do everything I can to get it returned you on Tuesday for review but whether or not that happens, I will be putting a solution key on this site at the end of the day on Monday.

For that reason, there will be no opportunity to make up this task for students absent tomorrow.

The term test will still be held on Thursday of this week; again, as this is the end of second term, there will be no opportunity to make up the test for students absent Thursday.

Math 9

CH. 1-3 assignment planned for today will not be written as planned.
Despite tomorrow not being a planned extra help day (and despite my statement that it would not be offered), since there was no school today, I will be available over lunch tomorrow if needed. Arrive quickly after the first lunch bell (11:57) and bring your lunch; as usual it’s first come, first served.
Tomorrow afternoon class will be one more day to prep for the term test, since the morning classes are being donated to Junior Achievement session.
Monday you will have a larger assignment covering all content from both terms. It will be open book and should give you a good feel for what the term test will be like (it is essentially a practice test, but will be marked to help take the edge of any problems that may arise during the term test). It will be marked and returned the next day so you may use it to help study for the term test.
Term test will still be Thursday next week and will be closed book; however, I will be providing you with a formula sheet during the test (it will be posted on this site ahead of time so you can re-familiarize yourself with it, just in case there are slight variations in formula arrangement from what you’re used to using on your own).
