The common area in our school have been designated “cell free”; daily reminders are still given that this means when in the halls all electronics are to be out of sight – this means all phones, music devices, and earbuds/headphones.
Earlier this year I experimented with allowing web enabled devices (including phones) in class when given permission, but due to the recent spike in the number of students who are not able to follow even those flexible rules, all electronics are hereby banned in my classroom – to clarify, this means all phones, music devices, and earbuds/headphones.
Perhaps at a later date I will be willing to lift this full ban, but this will only be after I see consistent, full and unprompted compliance in common areas.
Any electronics (or peripherals) seen in my classroom (just as in the common areas) will be confiscated without further warning; property will be turned in to the main office for safe storage for the remainder of the school day (no exceptions). In the case of chronic offenses, a parent/guardian may be required to collect the student’s property. As with all other behaviour incidents, all such offenses will be tracked and recorded in the Power School system.
It is expected that all devices are either left at home or safely stored in lockers.
PARENTS/GUARDIANS: We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. If for some reason you need to reach your child quickly, please call the main office at 457-8960. Thank you.
NEW EXTRA HELP DETAILS…Extra help will be offered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (appointments are no longer required for Monday). PLUS, those students interested in Pre-IB next year are welcome to work on the extra material with me on Tuesdays at lunch.
Recommendations for grade 10 math have been submitted to guidance. If you would like to speak with me about your chosen program for next year, I’m happy to discuss my recommendations. PARENTS, I’m happy to speak with you about this too!
