Math 9

  • Chapter test will be Wednesday, Feb 13th. You will be permitted a formula sheet. The formula sheet will be a standard size sheet of paper (loose leaf size) with hand-written formula and hand drawn diagrams only; no example questions or explanations…it should be the formula sheet that I encouraged you all to start three weeks ago when we started the measurement unit.
  • An outline will be provided and discussed tomorrow in class, but anything that has been assigned during this unit may show up. A PDF of the outline will be posted here tomorrow by the end of the day.
  • If you are unsure of what is permitted on the formula sheet, show me ahead of time. If the criteria are exceeded (digital images, example solutions), the formula sheet will not be permitted during the test.
  • There will not be an opportunity to teach you how to use a calculator during the test, so if you are still struggling, get familiar with the buttons/functions you’ll need ahead of time (square, square root, cube, cube root, pi).
  • As usual, multi-function devices (phones, iPods, etc.) are not permitted during assessments.
  • Today, we spent the class clarifying several of the more complicated questions assigned over the past week. The formula and figures have been the same as last week (before Friday’s test), but the applications are now more complex.
  • New practice questions assigned from the Chapter Review, #11-13 and from the Practice Test, #1-6 and 8.
  • Extra Help was offered today as I was out sick Tuesday and yesterday. Friday sessions is still offered as usual.

Math 9

Test tomorrow. Questions will involve all volume formula from last week, plus some similar to pg.241, #2 and 3 (don’t forget about the frustum). These calculations can take quite a bit of time, so practice, practice, practice! The more of these you do, the faster you’ll get at recognizing which figure is which, where to put the known values and how to quickly rearrange when solving for other missing dimensions.

You will be given the full class hour for tomorrow’s test, and it will be closed book/closed notes. Hopefully you’ve spent a good amount of time getting familiar with the formula and processes. We’ll be moving on to working with word problems (chapter 5.3) Monday.
