Tests were handed out yesterday and corrected.

Chapter 5 begins… Monday night’s homework was #1-8 from pg.218-221.

Quick review of those yesterday in class and #9-11 was added to the task list for last night.

Consistent organization of work is going to be a major component of this unit… pay close attention to the way samples are presented in class and in the text book.

Math 9

Chapter 4 tests from today did not go as well as I’d hoped…Monday tests are always the worst, but it has to happen now and then. This content will be revisited briefly in preparation for the term test at the end of this term and again during term three in preparation for the June exam.

We’re going to begin chapter 5 tomorrow (Measurement). This unit is heavy on the algebra and will require extra emphasis on communication and organizing work carefully.

Homework for tonight: Get Ready for chapter 5, pg 218-221, #1-8 for now. We’ll work through the rest tomorrow and Wednesday.

Due to Friday assemblies, chapter 4 test will be Monday.

• Take some time and work through THIS WEBSITE
• There are a bunch of examples in each section, followed by some practice exercises. These should at least help keep your skills sharp over the weekend.
• You can skip over the part dealing with mutually exclusive events…we didn’t deal with those this time around-next time (term 3), if time permits!

Chapter Test will be Friday (problems from yesterday have been resolved).

We still have a few slides to go… conversations on metric system and other somewhat related topics took a chunk of time from the class… all beneficial to those who remained tuned in though.

Last night’s homework will be checked tomorrow.

 

Math 9

Assignment today in class (open notes). Probability content to date was included.

• Solving for probabilities of individual and compound events (dependent and independent).
• Difference between theoretical and experimental.
• Showing possibilities with tree diagrams and organizational tables.
• Express probabilities as fraction and decimal values.

The next two days will include some discussion of subjective judgement, making decisions based on that vs. theoretical probability, and some further review of content on today’s assignment.

Second assessment will be Friday in class, closed notes/books (more a test than an assignment).

Next week we will move ahead with some problem solving skills development and begin chapter 5 late next week or early the week after (depending on how things go next week).
